Colin lasted 20 years at INMOS/ST. He got deeply involved in European projects and the quagmire of international standards, where he chaired the IEEE 1355 committee. Most recently at ST, he worked on high speed serial interconnect (DS links, Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet and IEEE 1394). He was tempted in January 1999 to join a Californian start-up, Zayante, which built its business around 1394 technology and was acquired by Apple in 2002. He and Pat made a permanent move to the USA at that time, and he spent 16 years helping to design Apple Mac computers and continuing his work in international standards, including DisplayPort, HDMI, USB and Qi. He retired in August 2018 and he and Pat have just moved to an Independent Living cottage in the Saratoga Retirement Community. His daughter married a surgeon in 2000, is herself a consultant paediatric radiologist and mother to his two delightful grand-daughters. Colin continues to enjoy music of all genres. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4eFElc_ZOk for how he spent 10 minutes being patriotic on New Year's Eve, Dec 2006, as part of an organ recital in Santa Cruz. Updated Oct 18.
